In cases of wounds, where there is significant damage and loss of skin,
the raw areas pose a real challenge to Surgeons and others, who treat these difficult wounds…
Denuded areas of skin cannot prevent the loss of body heat as normal skin does, by expanding the
blood vessels in the skin (Vasodilation) or through sweating. Further, denuded areas continuously loose
surface fluid, since the barrier of intact skin is not present to prevent the same.
In such conditions, a SKIN SUBSTITUTE is of CRITICAL IMPORTANCE to assist the healing process,
minimize pain , and very often, to ensure the survival of the patient.
APCOLL COLLAGEN dressings (Wet Form) display excellent physical and physiological properties required
for performing the role of an effective skin substitute.
- Produced with Collagen derived from bovine sources,
as bovine collagen
is very similar to the human form.
- Displays ability to support cellular growth.
- Non - inflammatory.
- Non - immunogenic.
- Low antigenicity.
- Minimal bio degradation.
- Non - toxic, Non – pyrogenic.
- Self adhesive.
- Elastic, soft and supple, with good tear strength and good
suturing characteristics.
- Sterilised through GAMMA RADIATION
- Preserved in preserving solution of Isopropyl alcohol and water
- Pain relief.
- Effective barrier against infection.
- Breathes like skin.
- Preserves local heat.
- Moderates fluid flux from the wound.
- Promotes epithelialisation by acting as a scaffolding,
and protects regenerating epithelium.
- Stimulates healthy granulation and accelerates tissue remodelling
> 2nd degree, non-infected burns, superficial and deep dermal burns.
> 3rd degree burns–as a temporary cover after escharectomy / tangential
excision.
> Traumatic loss of skin cover.
> Skin donor sites.
> Chronic non healing skin ulcers - Stasis, Arterial or Trophic.
> Pressure Ulcers (shallow).
> Leprosy ulcers.
> Open fractures - as a temporary skin cover.
Directions for use:
- Clean and decontaminate the wound thoroughly.
- Debride infected or necrotic wounds thoroughly.
- Ensure satisfactory haemostasis on Skin donor sites.
- Take out Apcoll wet sheet, squeeze gently and rinse thoroughly
in sterile saline, to remove the preserving medium.
- Apply Apcoll wet sheet firmly on the raw area and ensure air
bubbles are removed, for good adhesion.
- Avoid overstretching the sheet as it may tear the sheet.
- Apcoll wet sheet may be applied on either surface.
- Option of a secondary dressing is left to the Doctor`s choice.
- Apcoll wet sheet peels off as epitheliasation occurs.
- In cases where adhered Apcoll wet sheet has to be removed from
the wound, a pad moisturised with saline can be applied over Apcoll wet sheet for a few minutes, to assist
easy removal.
- Avoid using Apcoll wet sheets on patients who are
hypersensitive to Collagen
- Grossly infected wounds may reject Apcoll wet sheets.
- Discard the preserving fluid.
- Do not use if the pack is damaged or open.
- Sterility not guaranteed if the pack is damaged or open.
- Intended for SINGLE USE only.

Apcoll wet sheet can be stored at Normal Room Temperature.
